The starting point for this tour is in the attractive village heart of Leukerbad. Right away, the route passes one of the thermal baths for which the resort is famous: the hot springs here have been known since Roman times. Next, a scenic climb along minor roads and alpine lanes leads to Torrentalp high above Leukerbad and Albinen. The magnificent views extend from the dramatic cliffs in the west to many of the 4,000-metre peaks of the southern Alps. The restaurant by the middle station of the gondola offers a chance to rest and enjoy refreshments. The ride continues along a beautiful high trail to “Undru Guggerhubel”, another superb vantage point that provides the route’s name. The singletrack trail that comes next is the highlight of the ride and leads through the Hewald forest – destroyed in a fire in 2003 – and on to Guttet-Feschel. Finally, the route passes through the delightful small town of Leuk, full of history, and down to Leuk railway station (in Susten).
