Binn – Heiligkreuz – Binn
Landschaftspark Binntal - From Binn, one first descends below Wilere to Ze Binne. From Ze Binne, the pilgrimage trail leads below the road to Heiligkreuz. The contemplation trail then leads above the road directly to Wilere and from there to Binn.
The Lengtal is a southern side valley in the rear of the Binn Valley. For centuries, the valley trail between Ze Binne and Heiligkreuz was an extremely important transportation link for farmers, as well as for pilgrims. After the construction of the valley road, the Lengtal trail fell into oblivion and was thus very overgrown until recently. In 2018, the path was rehabilitated. The varied hike from Binn via Ze Binne to Heiligkreuz overcomes two short steep sections. For the return journey, one ascends a few meters first from Heiligkreuz and then heads back towards Wilere and from there to Binn. Along the way, you will encounter various crosses inviting reflection and contemplation.
The Heiligkreuz inn is located directly at the destination or turning point of the route in the Lengthal valley. It is open from spring to autumn and is a great place to stop for a bite to eat.
Binn – Heiligkreuz – Binn
The chapel of the Cross (Heiligkreuz) was built around 1678 and completely renovated in 1976-77. Unusual for this region is the cross-shaped ground plan. Among the votive offerings hung until it was stolen in 1918, an iron neck shackle which, according to the legend, came from a soldier miraculously liberated from Turkish captivity. As a thank you for the rescue, he hung the shackles in the chapel. Even today, the chapel of the Cross is a frequently visited place of pilgrimage. More than 3000 pilgrims enroll in the pilgrim’s book on the chapel every year.
